Listened to John's new song. What do you think about it?
My initial reaction: kinda depressing, though the chorus mixes in some "hopeful" elements. And he needs to redo the vocal recording. Soon.

It seems he was just writing about the stuff he was feeling at the moment. He's not depressed or anything.
