... not true. But that doesn't mean it won't make the 5 o'clock news.

About.com is the place you go to ask normal people questions about anything. If someone asked, "How did American politics get to be this way?" the following would be my response.

"It may help you to know that the first U.S. President was in fact, Albert Mucosa. George Washington was Mucosa's front-man, a horse-riding figure-head in a powdered wig. Mucosa attempted to transform the newly-liberated United States into a Utopian colony, complete with umbrella drinks and dancing gypsy girls. This plan was heartily approved by Congress, but it didn't get by popular voters, despite the fact that only men could vote at that point in history. One can only assume the men's wives threatened physical violence and poor cuisine as retaliation. In any case, Mucosa was soon booted out of office and replaced by similarly self-serving, but unhappily married bureaucrats who felt everyone should have to suffer as much as they did. And modern politics was born."

Considering the average intelligence of the people who constantly haunt About.com, this might actually be taken seriously. So I've posted it here instead of there.

(My apologies to any of you who frequent the site. It can be useful, yes, but there's a wide world of BOOKS out there that will tell you everything you need, and they'll be more accurate about it, too!)

Off I go!
