A Bedtime Story
Jan. 14th, 2004 01:13 amDave: Can I have a bed time story?
Me: Why certainly! :-)
Me: Are you all tucked in?
Dave: Mmhmm
Me: Good :-)
Me: Once upon a time, there was a little boy named David.
Me: David was a relatively nice boy who lived in a quiet little town.
Me: But little did he know that his nice, quiet life would soon be turned upside-down by a gang of Toothless Avenging Sea Monkeys!
Dave: Oh my
Me: One day, as he was playing out in the schoolyard, David and his friends heard a strange noise, and they felt the ground shake.
Me: Their kickball and jump-ropes fell from their hands, quickly forgotten in the midst of such excitement.
Me: For down the street came the ravaging hoard of Sea Monkeys, bent on revenge for the hours they spent imprisoned in schoolchildren's fish tanks, forced to eat nothing but slime and sand for weeks on end!
Dave: My goodness!
Me: David shouted for his closest friends Matt and Ben and Chris to come help him, and they huddled around him as he whispered his plan.
Me: "One, two, three, break!" the boys shouted, and then quickly sprinted off to the four corners of the playground.
Me: (Allison tries to quickly think of a plan that could possibly thwart a band of torture-bent crustaceans in under five minutes)
Me: The rest of the children scrambled up the monkey bars and slide and plastic fort and watched in fascination as the boys gathered up their chosen weapons.
Me: They held their collective breath as the army of Sea Monkeys came into view....
Me: "It's now or never," thought David to himself, drawing back his arm and aiming.
Me: "NOW!" he shouted!
Dave: And then what did they do?
Dave: Did they use the tetherballs to their advantage?
Me: The four boys hurled every ball and shoe and playground toy they had piled up at the invading army, crushing the miniscule soldiers beneath their heavy weight, sweeping them away in droves with their jackets, whipping at them with jump ropes!
Dave: Yay!
Me: Indeed, the tetherballs were the best weapon of all because the boys could pull them back by the string and reuse them.
Dave: And did they live happily ever after?
Me: The band of Sea Monkeys was reduced to a little pile of shellfish dust, and the children atop the playground equipment shouted and cheered!
Me: They raced over to David and his friends and gave them high fives and all of their lunch snacks!
Me: David grinned triumphantly to himself.
Dave: *snif* That is my favorite story ever.
Me: Then, hearing the bell, he and his buddies walked back into the schoolhouse, surrounded by a glow of victory.
Me: That night, when David's mom put him to bed, she asked him, "So, did you have a good day today, son?"
Me: And David just smiled and said, "Yep. The best."
Me: The End.
Me: :-)
Dave: That is a truly moving epic that
deserves to be reproduced on the big screen.
Me: LOL
Me: I'll get right on that.
I don't know why, but this made me so happy!
:-D
