Two.... no, several things
Mar. 19th, 2004 03:34 amTonight's Bible study took me to 1 Cor. 13 and 14.
There's nothing like revisiting a classic, is there?
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." (4-8)
"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me." (11)
"And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." (13)
Switching gears into Chapter 14, I happened upon a verse I must have looked at a dozen times, but it never sunk in before.
"Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church." (12)
That reminds me of the Derek Webb song "The Church," in which the main lyric is "If you love me, then you'll love the church." (Thanks for the recommedation, Andy!)
These things have got me thinking. And that is, after all, the point.
