And people looked at me funny when I said that the intellect and capacity for rational thought present in teenagers was on par with that of a Chia Pet.

Who's laughing now, skeptics? Huh?

The scary part is what could potentially happen if this isn't rectified. Because we all know it's easy to take rights away from people when they didn't know they had them to begin with.

Of course, rather than actually be educated about the ways of their own country, they'd just as soon go cavorting with their insipid acquaintances at the shopping mall, or have meaningless sex in the name of "OMG YUNG LUUUUUUUUVVVVVVVV! <3 <3 <3" with some vacuous school cheerleader.

Damn. Stupid. Kids.

you were once a teenager, I was once a teenager, and I know quite full well that i had the intellect and capacity for rational thought far above that of an inanimate objects... infact, that is one thing I can quite be sure of, is that I have an intellect and capacity for rational thought far above that of an inanimate object at every point in my life.

Yes, I'm being quite a pain in the ass.

I think it's safe to say that no one commenting in this entry was ever as bad as the kids you're describing.

The thing is, though, regardless of the exceptions like us who actually have brains who pay attention, the ignorant are in the majority.

It giveth me ulcers.

Please believe that I don't say this lightly:

WHAT! THE! FUCK!

Oh God, I have fear...

If you need me, I'll be cowering under my bed.

I think I'll join you. You bring the Wodehouse; I'll bring the cookies.

how about a flashlight?

[identity profile] toastandt.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
Deal. I'll even bring tea. When we have thus fortified ourselves sufficiently, we might be able to emerge to try to change the world by teaching the beautiful value of freedom - the one that Bush claims to be reinforcing in Iraq, even as it dies at home.

But really, now: is America going to become a dystopia, the type that so many sci-fi writers attempted to warn us against? Because I feel my country slipping away from me. I always thought, probably just like you, that the freedom to voice one's opinion, no matter how unpopular, was a fundamental componant of American identity. That no matter how much anyone disagrees with a current governmental policy, for instance, that they would consider themselves American precisely because they are free to disagree and to protest and to work for change.

What are these teens learning? And how can they be taught better?

And a good supply of batteries. And music! And....

We'll be quite comfy in our hidey-hole, yes. *makes lists*

And my goodness but you're articulate at 2 a.m.! My brain has unlearnt this skill as the academic side has been left largely dormant for the last... eight or nine months.

Wow, has it been that long? Huzzah!

Isn't it ironic that this should happen... it is a mark of age, to declare the youth as ignorant, while we are still ourselves young.

That is all.

[identity profile] corenn.livejournal.com 2005-02-02 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
I've never been that young.

I am so glad you answered that because my answer would not have been nice and even though I haven't known you long I think from what you do know about me you can guess how not nice I would have been to someone i think is being rude to one of my friends lol.

[identity profile] corenn.livejournal.com 2005-02-03 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, thanks, sweetie.

For future reference, though, Scully (sea_sensu_si) is my former roommate and very good friend. And though we may have differing opinions about some things, she's never rude to me, and I really hope I've never been rude back. Except sarcastically. Heh.

Back down, Mama Bear. It's all good. ;-)

*snuggles you*

[identity profile] treish.livejournal.com 2005-02-03 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
